Industrial Mixers...

INDCO, Incorporated specializes in manufacturing industrial mixers for applications from laboratory scale to those in excess of 5,000 gallons.

INDCO provides mixers for multiple industries; industrial grade mixers for chemical, construction, plastics, rubber, inks, pigments, paint, coatings and sealants and other various industries. INDCO also has specialized mixers and equipment for the sanitary industries including pharmaceutical, biomedical, cosmetic and food and beverage.

Engineers, operations professionals and entrepreneurs choose industrial mixers to meet individual process requirements based on an array of information. This includes batch and material data, industry requirements and operating environment considerations. Container dimensions and liquid depth enable engineers to select agitator components for proper flow pattern.  Ingredient properties such as viscosity and specific gravity help with the selection of the right motor and drive components to withstand the forces of the mixing process.  The following is a brief itemization of helpful information:

- Batch volume(s) including minimum and maximum batches if applicable.
- Container dimensions (diameter, height, liquid depth) and geometry
- Material properties

  • Initial ingredient and final product viscosities
  • Specific gravity or weight per gallon of ingredients
  • Corrosive or flammable properties
  • Solubility of solids and concentration

- Desired process outcome
- Sequence of ingredient addition

When selecting the right industrial mixer, consideration should also be given to location; indoors or outdoors, space limitations as well as the mounting method and required utilities. Furthermore, understanding specifications and code requirements that govern equipment design in some industries is of critical importance. For example, the FDA has specific requirements for industrial mixers in the food and beverage industry. ASME publishes specifications that govern the design of bioprocessing equipment which encompasses sealed sanitary mixers used in pharmaceutical product production.

In addition to specifications and considerations, a thorough understanding of compounds commonly used across industries is critical in order to configure an industrial mixing system that provides the desired process results. Solvents used in the paint & coatings industry can create flammable fumes that require explosion-proof electric or air powered industrial mixers.  Chemical and petroleum industries often need mixers for a variety of outdoor applications and are subject to the elements, necessitating epoxy-coated wash down or stainless steel drive components. In the allied chemicals industry, corrosive products may call for coated shaft and impellers to aid in cleaning or to prevent mixer component degradation.

The list of mixing system design considerations can be long and complex. INDCO has served the mixing industry since 1975.  Call our customer service department or speak to one of our engineers whenever you need assistance.

INDCO can customize a variety of products from small laboratory stirrers and portable tank or drum mixers to large dispersers and process vessel mixers.  Providing assistance and technical support is what we do, and we are glad to help answer any and all of your industrial mixer questions!  Call today at 800-851-1049.
