Choosing The Best Sanitary Mixer for You

When it comes to the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food and beverage industries, intricate knowledge of governing standards is essential. At INDCO, our engineers are equipped to help customers select sanitary and industrial mixer models. They also work with them to create custom configurations, including mechanical seal arrangements, USP Class VI elastomer parts, wetted part materials certifications, surface finishes, and more.

We supply pharmaceutical-grade stainless steel mixing tanks from 1-liter to over 500-liter volumes. Our tanks are ASME certified and can be provided with optional heating/cooling jackets, polished and electropolished surfaces, and a large variety of configurations, including diaphragm drains, site glasses, and instrumentation ports.

3 Sanitary Mixer Types:

  1. Deluxe Sealed Tank Mixers

    • Models: PhGM, PhD, PhG

    • Horsepower: Electric 1/4 - 1 HP, Air 3/4 - 4 HP

    • Variable Speed: NEMA 4 Control

    • Mount: Tri-Clamp (2", 4" or 6") 150# ANSI Flange Optional

The key feature of deluxe sanitary sealed tank mixers is their sealed design. The mixer is enclosed in a sealed housing, which prevents any contaminants from entering the mixing chamber, helping to ensure the purity and sterility of the product being mixed.

Another important feature of deluxe sanitary sealed tank mixers is their ease of cleaning. These mixers are designed with smooth, polished surfaces that are easy to clean and sanitize. In addition, the mixers may be equipped with features such as CIP (clean-in-place) systems, which allow for automated cleaning and sanitizing of the mixer.

  2. Sealed Tank Mixers

    • Models: TCM, TCMG

    • Horsepower: Electric 1/2 - 1 HP, Air 3/4 - 1.5 HP

    • Variable Speed: NEMA 4 DC Control

    • Mount: Tri-Clamp (2", 4" or 6") 150# ANSI Flange Optional

Sealed mixing tanks may be designed for various types of mixing processes, including agitation, blending, and emulsification. The tanks may be equipped with one or more impellers, which are driven by a motor or gear drive. The impellers may be of various shapes and sizes, depending on the specific application.

The main difference between our deluxe and standard is the variable speed level, and the type of seal. Deluxe models have an exterior dry-running mechanical seal, and our standard model uses an interior dry-running mechanical seal.

  3. Open Tank Mixers

    • Models: SM-ESD, SM-ESG, SM-DSD, SM-DSG

    • Horsepower: Electric 1/2 - 2 HP, Air 1.5 HP

    • Variable Speed: NEMA 4X Control Optional

    • Mount: Clamp

Sanitary open tank mixers are industrial mixers designed for use in applications where the mixing process does not require a sealed housing or where it is not necessary to maintain strict levels of product purity and sterility. These mixers are commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, wastewater treatment, and paper and pulp manufacturing.

Open tank mixers typically consist of a motor or gear drive, a shaft, and one or more impellers. The impellers may be of various shapes and sizes, depending on the specific application. For example, axial flow impellers are commonly used for mixing low viscosity fluids, while radial flow impellers are more effective for mixing high viscosity fluids. Open tank mixers may be designed for either top mounting or side entry. Top-mounted mixers are typically used for low viscosity fluids and may be suspended over the tank on a bracket or support frame. Side-entry mixers, on the other hand, are designed for mixing high viscosity fluids and are mounted through an opening in the side of the tank.
